About the Artist

Patricia Smith

Transparent Watercolor

I enjoyed watercolor paintings throughout school.  One of my watercolors was accepted into the International Red Cross Exhibition.  The purple and blue painting was called “Rainy Monday Morning.” Twenty years later, when I reunited with my birth mother, I discovered that my grandfather had taught watercolor at the Art Institute in Chicago, where my grandmother was once his student.  His painting of people walking in a snowstorm evoked the same sense and movement as my rainy-day watercolor.  I'm a founding member of Adoptees of OKC Metro.  When I taught English for 16 years, my students had to do a project every quarter.  Inspiring creative work for both me and others is a joy in my life. Later I lobbied for educators and played with paint on the weekends. I urge everyone to do something with their hands.  It's good for the soul.
